Sex in Marriage

The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
1 Corinthians 7:3-5

God instituted the lawful means in which sex is permissible between a man and a woman. Marriage is a covenant relationship firstly between God -the head- and his church –the body- He purposefully helps us to understand this relationship by demonstrating this concept via a natural relationship between a man and his wife.

The Marriage covenant is to bring forth God Almighty’s promise into the earth. Reproduction takes place through sex in a man and woman union, this is God’s plan –sex God’s way- In Genesis 16 verses 2 and 4, Abraham’s wife Sarah did not conceive, even though God had promised them a child. Hagar, Sarah’s maid was made to go in unto Abraham and bare children for them. It happened that she conceived and bore a son, Ishmael by name; but he was not the promise child although he was the first born for his father Abraham. Sex had occurred because the result was reproduction, but not the right sex, that is, marital covenanted sex. Later in verse 19 and 21 of the same Genesis chapter 16, God confirmed that His everlasting covenant stands and that Isaac, the son Abraham had with Sarah his wife, is the one with whom he (the Most High) will establish this covenant.

A normal sexual relationship brings forth children. In the garden of Eden, God spoke about fruit trees, seed time and harvest time. Everything is produced according to its’ purpose. He went further to highlight this concept in the New Testament when he said that any tree that bear not fruit must be hewn down. And so it is with sex in marriage the right way, it must produce fruit. The seed is sown by the Sower or the Farmer, it germinates and grows until it is the time to harvest. Who is the Sower? God himself is the Sower, who the man was created to mirror, Genesis 1:27.

Everything that God made, he stated that it must produce after its’ kind, see Genesis 1: 12, 25 and this is why when he created Adam, he said it is not good for him (Adam) to be alone and thus the principle follows that man too must produce after his kind; this is clearly illustrated in Genesis 2:21-23 when God put Adam to sleep and took the woman from him. Now it makes perfect sense that sex is applicable only in marriage because the man and his woman must be joined together as one flesh. This means that creation is no longer a separate event but a coming together to produce others after their own kind.

Know this that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey: either a slave to sin, which leads to death, or to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Romans 6:16. Your sexual conduct in marriage will determine indeed who you worship. In the beginning of time, in Genesis 1:20, Adam had named every cattle, fowl of the air and beast of the field, “…but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him”. In Psalm 8, we are given a snippet of the hierarchy of God’s creation, it states that man was made higher than every creature that God made.  Why then must humans adopt to sex, the animal’s way, whether the dog way or the lizard way? Sex in marriage must be kept holy. The Most High God firmly commands that his creation must be holy as he is holy, 1 Peter 1:16. Holiness is worshipping and living the way that the Creator has told us that we ought to live. It is the presence of God that makes it holy. The next time you worship in sex, remember to invite the Lord’s presence to come to that holy altar.

There are numerous benefits to sex in marriage and there are no disadvantages. God says to separate the clean thing from the unclean thing. Anything God institute is perfect and without fault. You will not lose if you do it God’s way. The following are the blessings that follow obedience to God:

  1. Your towns and your fields will be blessed.
  2. Your children and your crops will be blessed.
  3. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed.
  4. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed.
  5. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed.
  6. The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven!
  7. The Lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.
  8. You will be an example to the world

  10. The Lord will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.

Deuteronomy 28:3-12 (NLT)

Therefore seeing that you know these things now, beware lest you also are led away with the error of the wicked. Remember whoremongers have their part in the lake of fire.
