The official editions of the King James contained the books of the
Apocrypha unti11796. Most printers did not clear inventories and change to
the sixty-six book version we know today until the mid 1800's. Thus, most
Bibles printed before 1840 still had the Apocrypha, or at least most of the
Apocrypha. As it turns out, various religions have differing versions of the
Bible, made up of divergent lists of books. The Protestant church has its
sixty-six books, the Catholics have kept most of the Apocrypha. The Eastern
Orthodox Church claims three more books than the Catholics, and the
Ethiopic Church has a total of eighty-one books in its Bible.
